From The Desk of Thunder Bay Courthouse – Inside Edition. ANOTHER PROJECT DOLPHIN CONVICTION. RORY JACOB PELLETIER ENTERS UNEXPECTED GUILTY PLEA TO ONE CHARGE OF IMPORTING CANNABIS RESIN AND IS SENTENCED TO TIME SERVED. ALL OTHER CHARGES ARE WITHDRAWN.
An unexpected appearance in Superior Courtroom 205 on Friday March 9th by 46 year old Rory Pelletier in front of the Honourable Justice Danial Newton.
Originally charged in June 2013 with:
- Participant – Criminal Organization
- Trafficking of Marijuana for the benefit of a Criminal Organization
- Conspiracy to Traffic Marijuana
- 2 Counts Trafficking of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana)
In December 2015, 2 more charges:
- Importing cannabis resin – hashish
- Trafficking cannabis resin- hashish.
A plea of guilty on Count 7, Importing Cannabis Resin- Hashish is entered on the record. Crown Counsel is Claude Richer and Pelletier is representing himself.
Admitted facts are that Pelletier did import cannabis resin with persons unnamed and unknown rather than the other individuals listed in Count 7. Joint submission from Crown and Pelletier is for FOUR years in prison after Gladue factors were considered.
Pelletier has spent a total of 32 months of presentence custody at the Thunder Bay Jail. He’s given credit on an enhanced basis of 1.5:1 which equals 48 months. He’s released today, the effective sentence is time served.
There is a DNA order issued and a 10 year weapons ban. However, due to Pelletier’s indigenous background, he’s allowed a firearm to for hunting to sustain his family and continue his indigenous cultural heritage.
ALL OTHER CHARGES ARE WITHDRAWN ON CROWN REQUEST. Legal proceedings are complete for Pelletier. He’s leaving the courthouse on Friday afternoon a free man with no other conditions.
