WARNING: THIS VIDEO MAY BE DISTURBING TO WATCH, VIEWER DISCRETION IS HIGHLY ADVISED
This is the video of the first self-driving car collision that has claimed the life of a pedestrian. In the video you will see the autonomous Uber failing to slow down and fatally collide with a 49-year-old woman who was walking her bike across the street. The woman that died in the video is Elaine Herzberg, from Tempe Arizona. The Sunday night collision raises questions about why the self-driving car did not stop for a human that was in it’s path.
Uber has temporarily ceased its self-driving program, but has not as of yet commented on what may have caused the incident.
“The video is disturbing and heartbreaking to watch, and our thoughts continue to be with Elaine’s loved ones. Our cars remain grounded, and we’re assisting local, state and federal authorities in any way we can.” Uber said in a Wednesaday night statement.
