ALVIN O’KEESE RELEASED ON BAIL TODAY.

JOHN THOMAS JUNIOR O’KEESE IN THUNDER BAY JAIL CHARGED WITH ANOTHER ARMED ROBBERY WITH MACHETE

Appearing handcuffed this morning in Bail Hearing Courtroom 103 before His Worship Justice of the Peace Thomas McKeough is 34 year old ALVIN O’KEESE.

He’s represented by local defence lawyer Neil McCartney and Crown Attorney is Piera Pasloski.

Court hears allegations that on March 26,2018 at about 6pm Alvin and his cousin John went to Barb’s Laundromat on East Victoria Avenue.

Allegedly, Alvin stood watch while cousin John walked in with a knife and told the cashier “I’M A JUNKIE, WHAT CAN I SAY?”

They allegedly left with 335$. And there is allegedly video of the incident.

ALVIN has a lengthy criminal record with 2 previous robberies, fail to appear in court X 5, breach of bail X 5, breach of probation X 4

ALVIN’S mother is here to act as surety and testify. She’s from Collins, Ontario. It’s not an official Indian Reserve. But she’s a band member from Fort Hope because her Dad was from there. She says that Children’s Aid Society took over Alvin when he was 5 years old and sent him to live with his Aunt in Fort Hope. When he was 7 years old, he went to live with some school teachers in Armstrong, Ont.
She thinks Alvin is doing good and is a good father to his 11 year old son even though he doesn’t have custody. Court hears that when his son was born in hospital, the mother of child just abandoned child in hospital.

She doesn’t think he has a drinking problem. He’ll get drunk every 2-3 months and disappear for a few days. The last time he wound up in hospital from getting assaulted.
Alvin’s mom has custody of his child and looks after the boy while Alvin goes to jail.

On cross examination by the Crown, Alvin’s mom says that Dilico put Alvin on methadone and he didn’t want to go on it. She says she’s not aware of his whole criminal record. She has 600$ in savings and she’s willing to pledge 500$ on no deposit bail. She wants Alvin to come live with her in Thunder Bay Housing in the Academy Area.

(Writer’s note- Thunder Bay Housing has previously requested the court not to release criminals to go live in the units.)

On submissions to His Worship, the Crown emphasizes that Alvin should be detained on primary and secondary grounds. He has breached court orders 14 times plus he has 2 previous robbery convictions.

“ROBBERY OF SMALL PLACES LIKE THIS IS A PLAGUE IN THUNDER BAY” Crown Attorney Pasloski tells the Justice of the Peace.

His Worship decides to release Alvin O’Keese on 500$ no deposit bail with his mother as surety to go live in Thunder Bay Housing in Academy. He’s not to have any alcohol in his body when he’s outside the home. His next court date is Friday May 25,2018

He walks out of court looking very angry. Then gestures with his middle finger and attempts to intimidate.

A 36 YEAR OLD JOHN THOMAS JUNIOR O’KEESE APPEARS BY VIDEO FROM THUNDER BAY POLICE STATION WITH ANOTHER ARMED ROBBERY CHARGE IN BAIL PHASE COURTROOM 104.

Crown Attorney Gordon Fillmore is opposed to his release. Court hears allegations that JOHN also committed an armed robbery with a machete at the Mac’s at 1315 East Arthur Street and got a small quantity of cash.

He also has a long criminal record. He’s remanded into custody at the Thunder Bay Jail.

His next court appearance is Monday, April 23,2018 in Bail Court.
