(PIKANGIKUM FIRST NATION, ON) – On September 24, 2017, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers working in Pikangikum were notified by Tikinagan Family and Child Services that an infant child that had been living in one of their Agency Operated Houses (AOH) had been taken to the Winnipeg Health Science Centre on September 23, 2017, in medical distress. Medical examination revealed the infant had suffered serious injuries.
Members of the OPP North West Region Crime Unit began an investigation, under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Matthews of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). As a result, Anita STRANG, 51-years-old of Pikangikum First Nation was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault contrary to Section 268 of the Criminal Code.
She is being held in custody pending a bail hearing on April 25, 2018.
