(THUNDER BAY, ON) – I went to (a certain major grocery store chain) this evening, and as I got out of the vehicle with my children, I noticed a security guard pick up a dirty needle off the ground and place it in the garbage. Before he placed it in the garbage he looked around, looked at me, and then put it in the garbage.
I called the manager to complain and he said he that he would go looking through the garbage for the needle, and if there is one in there, he would remove it and take it inside to the pharmacy for proper disposal.
If you’re going to clean up needles, do it properly, don’t just throw them in the garbage, you are putting other peoples health at risk. How hard would it have been to just bring it inside to the pharmacy to be properly disposed of?
I didn’t stick around to see if the manager actually came out and checked the garbage, as I had to take my restless kids to the park, but I sure hope that (major grocery chain) and all other places in town take this seriously and train their staff on proper procedure when cleaning up needles!
