A northwestern Ontario fire chief was struck by a vehicle, ultimately ending his life while he was crossing a street in Rexdale.


Police state they got the call to an auto pedestrian collision near Dixon road and Highway 27 just before midnight

Schreiber Fire Department Chief Pat Bourguignon was crossing southbound and headed to his hotel room after attending the Ontario Fire Chief Association Of Fire Chiefs Conference when he was struck.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene, said police, who havenโ€™t mentioned it any charges will be laid.

Streetlights were out at the time of the accident due to a power failure, possibly related to the wind storm that sweeped southern Ontario.


Schreiber is about 2 hours east of Thunder Bay.

Fire Chief Pat Bourguignon was attending the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs annual conference in Toronto when he was struck and killed during a power outage.

The entire Township of Schreiber is in mourning and our deepest condolences go out to his wife Debbie, his children Dan and Lisa, and three grandchildren.
