(RED LAKE, ON) – Members of the Red Lake/Ear Falls Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the Red Lake Crime Unit and the OPP Northwest Regional Support Team are currently investigating an incident involving students at a local school.
On Tuesday May 1, 2018, the Red Lake OPP investigated threats to a school in Red Lake. During the course of this investigation, information received indicated threats were also made to a second local school. Police worked closely with both schools in identifying the youths involved.
As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old youth from Red Lake was arrested and charged with Uttering Threats to Cause Death contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. The youth was held in custody for a bail hearing and subsequently released to attend the Ontario Court of Justice – Youth Court on May 10, 2018 in Red Lake.
A 13-year-old youth from Red Lake was arrested and charged with two counts of Uttering Threats to Cause Death contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. The youth is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice – Youth Court in Red Lake on May 10, 2018.
The Red Lake OPP take all public safety threats seriously and provides resources necessary to assess and respond to such threats. The OPP will continue to work closely with both schools and their boards to ensure the safety of staff and students.
