(SHUNIAH, ON) – On May 14, 2018 at approximately 4:10 p.m. officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Superior North Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Shuniah Fire Department responded to a two vehicle fatal motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 11&17 and Spruce River Road.
Investigation has determined that a black 4 -door automobile travelling northbound on Spruce River Road pulled out in front of a blue pick-up truck travelling eastbound on Highway 11/17.
The male driver who was the lone occupant of the 4-door automobile was transported from the scene by EMS and was subsequently pronounced dead. He has been identified as 88-year-old Jean Luc BEAUDOIN of Geraldton, Ontario.
The lone occupant of the pick-up truck, a 53 year old male from Nipigon, was transported from the scene by EMS with non-life threatening injuries.
The OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD), Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI) and Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) attended the scene to assist with the investigation.
