ALCOHOL, STOLEN VEHICLE, AND ASSAULT ON MULTIPLE POLICE

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Appearing by telephone from the Red Lake Ontario Provincial Police detachment in W.A.S.H. (Weekend and statutory holiday) court this morning is 27-year-old Suzie Strang. Her Worship Justice of the Peace Anna Gibbon presiding, with Gordon Fillmore as the provincial crown attorney and Aranka Golphy as duty counsel.

Strang is respectful, attentive, and understands what is going on throughout the proceeding. She is clear spoken and firm in her responses.

Her Worship begins to read off the list of charges accumulated on May 19th, 2018, that have been pressed against Suzie Strang. The list is as follows:

  • Steal Motor Vehicle (Jetta)
  • Impaired Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Operation of Motor Vehicle with Blood Alcohol above 80mg/100ml
  • Assault Police Officer
  • Assault Police Officer
  • Assault Police Officer

Crown attorney Gordon Fillmore indicates he intends to show cause as to why Strang should not be released and does not consent to her release. Fillmore states he is concerned about secondary grounds, which means the likelihood of Strang reoffending, or becoming a danger to the public.

Duty counsel Aranka Golphy, requests a remand to Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018, in Kenora bail court for an in-person appearance.
