(THUNDER BAY, ON) – The Fort William First Nation flag will be hoisted up later this week at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC).
The TBRHSC has stated that it is committed to advancing Indigenous health and reconciliation. They also recognize that our hospital facility is located on the traditional ground of Fort William First Nation, and are wishing to acknowledge it in a meaningful way.
Furthermore to the gesture of paying respects to the traditional lands, the TBRHSC believes the move will advance awareness of the rich and important Indigenous history and culture of the region.
On Wednesday, May 30th, 2018(tomorrow), the flag-raising ceremony will be happening on the TBRHSC grounds, with Fort William First Nation Chief Peter Collins attending.
The Fort William First Nation flag is already flying at City Hall. The flag being flown at the Lakehead District Public School Board’s secondary and elementary schools is being discussed with the board.
