(THUNDER BAY, ON) – A John Street residence in the 900 block has erupted into flames, destroying one side of the Thunder Bay Housing duplex shortly before 8:00 pm this evening. The fire was restrained to the left side of the building, according to a firefighter on scene.
Witnesses on the scene tell TRCCTB.COM that the likely cause of the blaze was a patio barbeque. Nobody was reported hurt, as 3 children and a mother were able to escape the inferno, which fully involved the main floor and roof.
Upon Thunder Bay Fire Rescues Pumper 2 arrival, a second alarm was called due to the structure being fully engulfed. A second alarm is a call for more fire trucks and personnel to respond to the scene and a portion of John Street was closed between Clarkson and Sequoia. 2 Ambulances, 5 Pumper Trucks, and 1 Aerial Ladder with a dozen or more firefighters were dispatched to the incident.
