(THUNDER BAY, ONT) โ€“ Appearing in the prisonerโ€™s box of courtroom 102 on June 11th, 2018, is Josiah Robert Thomas. His Honour Dino DiGiuseppe presiding along with Pasloski, P as Crown Attorney, and Gil Labine as defence lawyer.


Thomas is wearing a grey hoodie and blue jeans as he stands steady and seems quiet yet responsive.

A May Street Macโ€™s was robbed on February 25th, 2018, and today Thomas pleads guilty to that charge. He is also facing numerous other charges involving robberies at Macโ€™s, failing to comply with bail conditions, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Patrol officers were dispatched to the Macโ€™s Convenience Store located in the 300 block of May Street at approximately 10:15 a.m. on February 25, 2018, in response to a report of a robbery with a baton that had just occurred.

While driving to the store, an officer located a male matching the description of the suspect. The male was detained while other officers attended the store to speak to the complainant and view the video footage of the incident.


The suspect was arrested at 10:30 a.m. for the robbery. He was searched incident to arrest and a baton and cash were found on this male.

Thomas pleads guilty to this robbery charge.

His other outstanding charges dated May 19th are:

  • Obstruct Police: Provide False Name
  • Carry Concealed Weapon While Not Authorized: Knife
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking: No weapons: Knife with 3โ€ blade

Outstanding charges stemming from a May 3rd incident are as follows:

  • Theft while armed: Syringe
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking: 10 pm โ€“ 6 am curfew

His Honour orders a presentence report with Gladue components to be completed. Thomas has been remanded into custody, for an August 2nd, 2018 court date in which his pre-trial will continue, and he may be sentenced for the charge of Robbery he plead guilty to and have the remaining charges moved forward.
