(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to a call concerning a possible abandoned infant in the Academy Drive area on July 2, 2018.
While waiting for police to arrive, a nearby resident was able to provide assistance to the 4 month old. The infant was transported to hospital for medical attention.
A subsequent investigation by the Criminal Investigations Branch led to charges against the infant’s 37 year old mother who is a Thunder Bay resident.
She has been charged with:
- Failure to provide the necessaries of life – C.C. 215(a)(i)
- Abandoning a child – C.C. 218
The accused appeared in court this morning and has been remanded into custody. Police are withholding her identity to protect the child’s privacy.
The Thunder Bay Police Service is looking for the public’s assistance in identifying a male witness who was in the area and assisted in locating the child. We would encourage this individual to contact the Thunder Bay Police Service at 684-1200.
