(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Appearing in courtroom 104 by video from the Thunder Bay Police Service station is Christopher Leon French.
French is facing a number of charges which stem from an incident last evening. The allegations are below.
French is charged with:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
- Mischief under $5000 x3
On August 1st, 2018, 7:53 pm, Thunder Bay Police Service received numerous 911 calls about a male that was later identified as Christopher French was in a bar, with a knife.
French was alleged to have smashed windows and property in the area of Ogden Street and Simpson Street.
It was also alleged he smashed a large picture window and a mailbox in the 500 block of Simpson Street, as well as throwing a large garbage can into the side of a Pruden street address, causing a hole in the siding.
French was also witnesses throwing around plants and kicking garbage cans. He was soon located in a back alley by Thunder Bay Police Service officers.
When police located the male, they observed French in possession of a 12-inch knife with a 6-inch handle. He was waving it around, yelling obscenities and chasing a vehicle.
The crown mentions that French’s record is dated, and only brings up a previous assault, and a breach of probation. His most recent conviction being in 2015.
The crown suggests releasing French on his own recognizance, without deposit under the following conditions:
- No drugs or alcohol consumption/possession
- Reside at home
- No weapons / ammunition / explosive substances
- No contact with 2 people
- Do not attend several addresses
Duty counsel, which is representing French today, indicates that French has noted that he is willing and capable to abide by these conditions.
