4 PEOPLE CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(RED LAKE, ON) โ€“ The Red Lake/Ear Falls Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged several drivers with drinking and driving in the past few weeks.

On July 19 at approximately 5:00 pm, officers were on patrol on Highway 105 in the area of English River Road when they observed a vehicle that was exceeding the speed limit and conducted a traffic stop.ย Further investigation revealed the driver had consumed alcohol.ย A roadside test was conducted and failed at which time the driver was arrested and returned to detachment for further tests.ย Russell Burton, 42, of Kitchener is charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to Section 253(1)(a) and Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.ย He was released to attend court in Red Lake on August 30.

Later that same evening at approximately 9:00 pm, officers were conducting patrol on Highway 105 south of Red Lake when they observed a vehicle exceeding the speed limit.ย Further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.ย After failing a roadside test, the driver was arrested and returned to detachment for further tests.ย Lee Nichols, 20, of Ear Falls is charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code as well as Stunt Driving contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.ย He will appear in Red Lake court on August 30 to answer to the charges.

On July 31 at approximately 11:00 pm, officers received a call that an impaired driver was attempting to leave a parking lot of a business on Highway 105 in Red Lake.ย Officers responded and located the vehicle in question with an employee standing in a position to block the vehicle from moving.ย Police spoke with the involved male and made a roadside demand for a breath sample.ย After failing the test, the male was arrested and returned to detachment for further tests.ย Peter Goldman, 48, of Lindenhurst, Illinois, is charged with Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. ย He was released by way of a promise to appear in Red Lake court on August 30 to answer to the charges.

On August 8 at approximately, 6:00 pm, officers received a report of an abandoned vehicle on Highway 105 south of Red Lake.ย Upon arriving at the scene, officers located a female in the vehicle and further determined she had been drinking.ย A roadside demand was made and failed.ย The female was arrested and returned to detachment for further tests.ย Joanne Aiken, 61, of Red Lake is charged with Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle while ability is Impaired as well as Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood contrary to Sections 253(1)(a) and (b) of the Criminal Code.ย She was released by way of a promise to appear in Red Lake court on September 27 to answer to the charges.
