FURNACE RECALL ATTRIBUTED TO FIRE RISK

(CANADA) – Multiple brands of furnaces sold in Canada are being recalled due to over heating.

The recall involves Coleman, Coleman Evcon and Red T brand furnaces.

The furnaces over heat creating the heat exchanger to crack and burn through. In extreme cases the heat could burn right through the furnace wrapper.

This malfunction could lead to the ignition of drywall and other combustible objects adjacent to the furnace.

The overheating of the furnaces could cause significant property damage, injury and even death.

According to Health Canada, as of August 3rd 2018 there has been 8 reported instances in Canada with no reported injuries.

The recalled furnace could be identified by the brand name located on the panel as well as the model numbers.

The affected model numbers are listed below:

  • DGAM075BDD
  • DGAT070BDD
  • DGAT075BDD
  • DLAS075BDD
  • DGAM075BDE
  • DGAT070BDE
  • DGAT075BDE
  • DLAS075BDE
  • DGAM075BDF
  • DGAT070BDF
  • DGAT075BDF
  • DLAS075BDF

Roughly 2,373 of the recalled furnaces have been sold in Canada from 1995 to Novemeber 2000.

If you own one of the above recalled furnaces, stop using the heating function immediately. After inspection and if the furnace is found to be involved in the recall, an incentive of $100 dollars US will be given to replace the furnace.
