(VARIOUS LOCATIONS, ON) – A special weather statement has been issued for areas across the northern Ontario region this morning.
The alert is calling for significant amounts of rain, most likely in the 20-40mm, but some locations may hit 50mm.
Below is the Special Weather Statement issued by Environment Canada.
7:04 AM EDT Monday 20 August 2018
Special weather statement in effect for:
- City of Thunder Bay
- Cloud Bay
- Kakabeka Falls
- Whitefish Lake
- Arrow Lake
A slow moving line of showers and thunderstorms is soaking the region this morning. Weather radar shows this line extending from near Kakabeka Falls and Thunder Bay across the Nipigon and Cameron Falls area to Geraldton.
Rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are quite likely in locales that receive a couple thunderstorms in a row. Locally higher rainfall amounts of 40 to 50 mm are not completely out of the question.
Motorists should expect poor visibility in heavy downpours, and ponding of water on poorly drained sections of highways.
The showers and thunderstorms will weaken slowly later this morning.
