(THUNDER BAY, ON) – The intersection of Balsam and the Thunder Bay Expressway has been the location of a substantial highway collision. The eastbound lanes of the Thunder Bay Expressway (11/17) have been reduced to one lane.

The collision happened shortly after 3:00 pm this afternoon, and saw a response from the Ontario Provincial Police, Superior North EMS, and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue.

At first glance it appears the transport rear ended a City of Thunder Bay pick-up truck at the intersection of Balsam and the Thunder Bay Expressway

It seems as tho the two vehicles were headed eastbound on the Thunder Bay Expressway, and that the collision occurred in the intersection, as clean up crews from Carillion were at the intersection cleaning up.

The vehicles laid to rest roughly 150-200 feet from the intersection.

  1. I use this intersection at least twice a day….westbound on the west side of the lights has a warning that the light will be turning red….since that was installed there have been no major accidents…they have the warning on the Harbour Expressway, yet they only have the one on 11/17 in the city limits….it would make so much sense to have them at every light on the highway that passes through our city. The lights suddenly change and you have a transport on your butt….slamming your brakes on and you’re rear ended, sometimes not as lucky as this!!!! Wake up!!!
