(PICKLE LAKE, ON) – Appearing in courtroom 104 of the Thunder Bay Courthouse for W.A.S.H. (weekend and statutory holiday) court from the Pickle Lake Ontario Provincial Police detachment is 27-year-old Winnipeg, Manitoba resident Andrew Klumper.
His Worship, Justice of the Peace Marcel Donio is presiding, along with Crown Attorney Derek Silvestro and duty counsel lawyer Lianne Roberge.
Klumper is facing the following charges:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
The Crown indicates that this is a reverse onus situation, meaning that the onus is on the accused to show cause as to why they should be released.
Furthermore, the Crown cites their concerns surrounding the release of Klumper based on the primary and secondary grounds.
Primary grounds indicate that the Crown believes the likelihood of the accused attempting to skip court is substantial. Secondary grounds indicate that the Crown believes the likelihood of the accused reoffending or becoming a public safety concern is substantial.
The Crown tells the court that Klumper was already on a surety recognizance release when this crime was alleged to have been committed.
Klumper has charges in Manitoba, one of which includes drug trafficking. He also has charges surrounding violence stemming from Manitoba as well.
Duty counsel lawyer Lianne Roberge takes a brief moment to discuss in private with the accused, upon her return to the courtroom she requests the matter be remanded until Monday, September 10th, 2018.
His Worship, Justice of the Peace Donio remands Klumper back into custody pending his Monday court appearance.
