(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Appearing in courtroom 104 this morning of the Thunder Bay Courthouse via video from the Thunder Bay Police Service Station is 33-year-old Scott Shapwaykeesic.
His Worship, Justice of the Peace Marcel Donio is presiding, along with Crown Attorney Trevor Jukes, and duty counsel lawyer Lianne Roberge.
Shapwaykeesic is here for a number of charges, stemming from two separate dates.
September 8th, 2018 charge:
- Breach of probation (keep the peace and be of good behaviour)
July 1, 2018 charges:
- Assault on a woman
- Theft under $5000 (woman’s laptop)
- Mischief under $5000 (woman’s laptop)
The Crown indicates that this is a breach of Shapwaykeesic’s conditional sentence order, and by virtue, it is a reverse onus situation. Consent for Shapwaykeesic’s release is not granted.
The Crown indicates curiosity as to why these charges from 2017 were not dealt with when he had other charges dealt with earlier this year.
Duty counsel advises the court the Gil Labine is Shapwaykeesic’s lawyer, and Labine has sent instructions to duty counsel to remand the matter for a Monday court appearance.
His Worship, Justice of the Peace Donio remands Shapwaykeesic into custody for his court appearance tomorrow.
Shapwaykeesic is brought back into his cell to await prisoner transport to the Thunder Bay District Jail, where he will spend the night before appearing in courtroom 104 via video on the 12:45 pm list.
