(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Police are holding the scene of a home that has been destroyed by fire overnight.

The home is showing the inside of the structure to be completely burnt out at the front of the trailer.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to the home around 2:00 am.

The only time we have seen police holding the scene of a fire is when someone has died in the fire, or if an arson investigation is underway.

The neighbours say that numerous fire trucks were on scene, dousing the fire.

There was 1 Thunder Bay Police Service officer holding the scene at the time we were there.

*** UPDATE: 1 male has died and 1 woman is in the intensive care unit.

**** UPDATE 2: Fire crews arrived to find the front of the home engulfed in flames. Crews entered the home and some battled the flames while others searched for people.

Two people were removed from the home, a male and a female, in an unresponsive state. The woman was revived by paramedics and sent to hospital where she remains. The male was pronounced dead at the scene.

Working smoke alarms were in place at the time of the blaze, but it is not yet known if they were installed properly.

We have been told the males name was John.

  1. John was a lifelong friend of my family. We live in Grand Marais MN and would appreciat information regarding a service etc. For John.

John was very intelligent, witty and a talented artist. He lived a fulfilling life. He was adored by many! You can find his story in the book he wrote, Life on the Invisible Line.

His adult daughter Carol was the female in the fire. We are concerned about her status. Will you write a follow up story?
