(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Early this morning, shortly after 12:45 am our newsdesk filled up with tips regarding 6-7 gunshots being heard in the Algoma/Secord area.
This area of town is no stranger to out of town gang and gun activity, as the notorious alleged abduction and forced prostitution we wrote about happened on Secord and Ambrose. That matter is still going through court, and we hope for a conviction.
Details are thin as of right now, but what we have heard is that the gunshots were not consistent with a semi-automatic weapon, but were in quick succession. It is expected that the police are investigating.
The guns and gangs issue in Thunder Bay is growing. There are more drug houses operating in town that are not under investigation than drug houses that are under investigation. The reason for that is not that our police are turning a blind eye, but it is because we do not have enough officers to address every single one.
It is best to stay inside, and if the police come to your door, cooperate with them.
If you or anyone you know has heard these gunshots, please contact police at 807-684-1200 and pass on what you know.
