(DRYDEN, ON) – Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has issued a warrant for the arrest of 34-year-old Sandeep Singh Dhadwal, along with a removal order.
Dhadwal was arrested on November 23rd, 2018 on the strength of this warrant, and was put in front of His Worship, Justice of the Peace Marcel Donio this morning in a Thunder Bay bail court via telephone from the Dryden Police Service station.
Crown Attorney Franceline Auclair and a duty counsel lawyer were also present during the matters.
Dryden Police received a call about an intoxicated man in the Tim Hortons parking lot. The male was located by police in the Extra Foods parking lot.
Dhadwal allegedly became quite violent and combative during his arrest by the Dryden Police Service officers by immediately trying to fight them and threaten to kill them, as his charges show below:
- Mischief causing damage under $5000 (damaged a police vehicle)
- Assault police x2 (two different officers)
- Resist arrest x2 (two different officers)
- Uttering threats to cause death to police officers x6 (6 different officers)
The Crown states that this is a Crown-onus situation, but they are going to hold him on secondary ground concerns.
A “Crown-onus” situation means that the Crown must show the courts why the accused should be released from jail. Secondary grounds tells us that the Crown believes that Dhadwal may either re-offend, become a public safety concern, or interfere with the administration of justice, or any combination of the three should he be released.
Duty counsel requests a remand until Monday, November 26th in a Sioux Lookout bail court.
The Justice of the Peace orders Dhadwal to remain in custody until at least his court appearance on Monday. It is likely that an officer from the Canada Border Services Agency will be in attendance of court on Monday, to apprehend Singh, should he be released.
We have not been able to confirm if Dhadwal is a refugee.
We would ask for someone to send in a photo of Sandeep Singh Dhadwal, but we believe it to be a futile effort. The email is firstname.lastname@example.org just in case.
