(THUNDER BAY, ON) – A 22-year-old Scott Walford was arrested again in Thunder Bay, this time on allegations of theft-related charges. He appeared in a Thunder Bay bail court via video from the Thunder Bay Police Service station this morning.

His Worship, Justice of the Peace Marcel Donio was presiding, along with Crown Attorney Franceline Auclair, and duty counsel lawyer Lianne Roberge who is accompanied by law student S. Charlebois.

Walford is facing the following criminal charges that stem from a November 24th incident:

  • Theft under $5000 (a board game and a box of beer glasses)
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Failure to comply with probation (keep the peace and be of good behaviour) x2

The Crown is not consenting to his release today based on secondary ground concerns. Walford is in a Crown-onus situation, but the Crown intends to show cause as to why he should be detained.

Duty counsel law student S. Charlebois tells the court that they will be referring him to the John Howard Society. The request is for Walford to remain in custody on consent until a Tuesday court date. Furthermore, Charlebois tells His Worship that she will be sending an email to local criminal defence lawyer David Bruzzese to update him on Walford’s status, as that is his lawyer of choice.

The Justice of the Peace grants the request and orders Walford to remain in Jail until at least his TuesdayΒ video appearance, where he could possibly be released.

Walford is escorted back to his jail cell where he waits to be transported to the Thunder Bay District Jail.
