GREENSTONE DRUG BUST – UPDATE

(GREENSTONE, ON) – On the 25th of November, 2018 members of the Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 11.

Members attended the scene and located a 4 door sedan in the northbound ditch with four occupants.

Investigation revealed one of the passengers was in possession of an illegal substance.Β Police seized 661 Oxycodone pills with a subsequent street value of $6615.

Wally Williams, 48 years old of Longlac, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following offence:

  1. Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of Trafficking – (Opioid) contrary to section (5)2 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Williams was held in custody and scheduled for a bail hearing.Β Greenstone OPP with the assistance of the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) are investigating the incident further.

(GREENSTONE, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police have made an arrest regarding oxycodone drug trafficking in the Greenstone area.

A 48-year-old Wally Ladislav Williams was apprehended by police and appeared in a Thunder Bay bail court this morning.

Williams appeared via video from the OPP detachment in Greenstone in front of a Her Worship, Justice of the Peace Zelda Kitchekeesic.

Crown Attorney Ron Poirier was also in attendance along with duty counsel lawyer Andrew Desmoulin.

Williams was charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (oxycodone)

The Crown tells the court that Williams does not have an address in Greenstone, and that causes concerns under the primary grounds.

Sources have indicated that Williams is likely from the Toronto area.

Williams has found himself in a β€œreverse-onus situation”, which means he will have to show the court as to why he should be released from jail.

Further the Crown is also concerned on the secondary grounds. This tells us that the Crown believes the likelihood of Williams to either reoffend, become a public safety concern, interfere with the administration of justice, or any combination of the three.

The Crown intends to put Williams to his onus.

Duty counsel speaks to Williams in private for a few moments. Upon his return to court he tells the court that he will be assisting Willaims in obtaining a lawyer, and requests the matter to be remanded to tomorrow in court.

The Justice of the Peace grants the remand request and orders Williams to remain in jail until at least his appearance tomorrow.

Williams was escorted back to his jail cell in the OPP Greenstone detachment, where he will wait to be transported to the Thunder Bay District Jail.
