(KAPUSKASING, ON) – On November 30, 2018, at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the James Bay Detachments’ of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft occurrence at a local business on Government Road in Kapuskasing, Ontario.
Police attended the area and arrested a female. During the arrest, a male fled from police, eastbound, into a wooded area behind local businesses.
Police investigation revealed that the suspects were in possession of firearms.
The OPP’s Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit (K9), Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) and the James Bay Detachments’ Crime Unit are assisting in this ongoing investigation.
Government Road which becomes Highway 11 was closed between Gurney Road and Clear Lake Road and several businesses were evacuated.
The male suspect was located and arrested, Highway 11 is now open and there is no longer a threat to public safety. This investigation is ongoing and further details will be released as they become available.
