(THUNDER BAY, ON) – An alleged theft at an Arthur Street Shoppers Drug Mart has landed one man behind bars. The male had two outstanding warrants for his arrest from incidents previous to the Shoppers Drug Mart incident yesterday.
An alleged theft that occurred on December 5th, 2018 at Shoppers Drug Mart located at 900 Arthur Street East has landed a 23-year-old Richard Justin JR Parker in a Thunder Bay bail court this morning.
Parker appeared in court via video while in custody at the Thunder Bay Police Service station this morning. His Worship, Justice of the Peace Bruce Leaman was presiding along with Crown Attorney Sarah Munch and Parker’s criminal defence lawyer was David Young.
The December 5th incident at Shoppers Drug Mart has Parker facing the following charge:
- Theft under $5000
Further allegations are that Parker broke into someone’s vehicle and stole their debit card. He is alleged to have used the debit card resulting in the following charges stemming from July 23rd, 2018:
- Fraud under $5000 (money)
- Possession of a stolen debit card
Further yet, an incident alleged to have occurred on July 18th, 2018 puts Parker at the scene of a break and enter in the Thornloe Drive area, where allegations say he broke into a garage that is attached to a home. His charge from this incident are as follows:
- Break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence
The Crown is currently recommending the release of Parker without a monetary amount attached to his bail under the following conditions:
- Report to the Thunder Bay Police Service every Wednesday between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm by telephone
- No contact with two people
- Not attend within 50 meters of 900 Arthur Street East (Shoppers) as well as two residential addresses
Defence lawyer David Young consents to the conditions and asks that the matters return to court on January 11th, 2018.
The Justice of the Peace says that the conditions the Crown is suggesting will serve to protect the public, in his view. He grants the release and sets Parker’s next court date as requested by David Young for January 11th, 2018.
As the matter is concluding, Young tells Parker to apply for legal aid. Parker is sent back to his jail cell where he will wait for the court to finish his release paperwork before he can be released.
