Third up on today’s bail docket is a 23-year-old Jonah Thomas. Justice of the Peace Jennifer Neill was presiding along with a Provincial Crown Attorney P. Pasloski and a duty counsel representative. Thomas was arrested by the Thunder Bay Police Service and charged with the following criminal code offences:
- Theft under $5000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (4 counts)
- Fraud under $5000 contrary to section 380(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
Theft under $5000, section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada reads as:
Except where otherwise provided by law, every one who commits theft is guilty of an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or of an offence punishable on summary conviction, where the value of what is stolen does not exceed five thousand dollars.
Fraud under $5000, section 380(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada reads as:
Every one who, by deceit, falsehood or other fraudulent means, whether or not it is a false pretence within the meaning of this Act, defrauds the public or any person, whether ascertained or not, of any property, money or valuable security or any service, is guilty of an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or of an offence punishable on summary conviction, where the value of the subject-matter of the offence does not exceed five thousand dollars.
Thomas was denied bail today and is scheduled to appear in bail court on Monday in Thunder Bay.
