ADMITTED FACTS BEFORE THE COURT.

On October 10,2018 a 911 call is placed by a real concerned citizen at 2:49am about a potential drunk driver in the parking lot of 283 Pearl Street.

Thunder Bay Police officers arrive at 2:56am in the parking lot. They immediately observe 2 people in the vehicle attempting to hide something. The lights are activated and police begin their investigation. Two empty cans of alcoholic coolers are found along with keys in the ignition and the vehicle running. Police question both driver and passenger.

Investigation with passenger leads police to believe there is a young toddler alone in an apartment at 283 Pearl Street. Police question driver SOCHACKEY who denies there is a child left alone and tells police that the child is with grandparents. The passenger tells police that they left child alone in apartment because they didn’t want to drink alcohol near child. Driver SOCHACKEY continues to deny child is left alone.

SOCHACKEY fails the roadside screening device for alcohol and is arrested. The Thunder Bay Police Officer goes to the Pearl Street apartment and finds the door unlocked. Concerned about the welfare of the toddler, the Police Officer enters and finds an 18 month old child alone standing up in his crib. The officer helps the child go back to sleep and contacts Dilico Family Care. SOCHACKEY is taken to Thunder Bay Police Station for breathalyzer testing while Dilico arrives to take custody of the abandoned child.

Her mother passed away about a year ago due to alcohol issues. The court hears that SOCHACKEY regained custody of her child in December. She’s a recipient of Ontario Works. She has no previous criminal record.

SENTENCING

There is a joint submission to the court for a fine, probation and community service along with driver’s licence suspension.

Her Honour Justice MacKinnon tells SOCHACKEY “ You put alcohol before your child. You’re a young mother, but it’s important to be a good mother. You misled police officers who were investigating the welfare of your child”.

SOCHACKEY is fined 1000$ and has her license suspended for 1 year on the impaired charge. She’s given 12 months to pay.

ANOTHER GOOD JOB BY THUNDER BAY POLICE OFFICERS

As usual, no media release from the Director of Communications at TBPS and local taxpayer subsidized media are not present to report for the public.

WRITER’S NOTE: SOURCES INDICATE THAT SOCHACKEY’S MOTHER DID NOT DIE OF ALCOHOL ISSUES BUT SEPTIC SHOCK FROM PNEUMONIA.  IT APPEARS THAT SOCHACKEY LIED TO THE COURT ABOUT HER OWN MOTHER’S DEATH.

  1. Surely she is not getting her child back !! What is this Gladue crap ? Seems it makes it deems a slap on the wrist for choosing alcohol over your child. The reason can’t be that her Mom passed away from alcohol issues or that she is from a reserve. Seems this lady has alcohol issues too. Are these reason for this crime of abandonment? I certainly hope not or we definitely have a problem in our justice system.

  2. Great work by TBPS, again.

But what a sad pair of human beings. They left the toddler alone to protect it from being around alcohol. Now there’s logic!

  3. And yet another fine, choice citizen.Take her kid from her and let a fitting family raise it.Someone should break the cycle.

  4. Gotta love the new impaired rules.
    Feel sorry for the toddler.
Sad that kids get taken away, but do you trust the parent/s?

  5. Alcoholics often die of pneumonia and other infections from not taking care of themselves. The booze destroys the immune system and not quitting drinking renders antibiotics useless.

  6. Surely there should be charges laid for failure to properly provide for the child.
I cannot express my disgust with this woman abandoning an 18 month old defenceless child.
She’s a totally incompetent mother and should never get the child back.

    1. Dilico has a track record of not placing young children with family members and Dilico foster parents have a history of being poorly trained. It would be better to have the child placed with family and help the mother. A child needs it’s mother.

  7. I have been hearing in the news of late, indigenous people complaining of white ppl fostering their children and changes coming to keep children with their own.
Why hasnt this been done with this child?
    Too politically disturbing?

  8. I have to put my two cents in on this because I worked for it and earned it. This $1000 fine the courts have issued is a crock of pigeon poo! She’s on OW for gosh darn sake. That means that the tax payers are paying her fine not her. If she’s on OW because she has a child, that should change now. Disqualify her from OW and force her to get a job. I’m tired of working to the bone just to have more money removed from my cheque so that undeserving people can sit on their a**es, drink alcohol or do drugs. So wrong. By the way, my mother was an alcoholic and she passed away when I was a teen but I never became a drunkard. Must be something wrong with me…hah!

    1. Tax payers pay for everything. Roads, schools, lights, garbage bins, infrastructure, equipment, snow plows, basketballs, diapers, dog food, government officials, police, firetrucks, air force helicopters, ….. EVERYTHING.
      SUCK IT UP.

  9. It is a sad thing isn’t it? Baby left alone while a young mother sits and gets juiced on alcohol. It’s a sad thing when people who comment feel the need to judge as if they are pure as snow falling from the sky. It is sad that hearts are full of hate and condemnation. It is a sad world everywhere today because instead of sitting and judging and wishing more damage to an already emotionally damaged person, people are not willing to put their strength and love to good work by helping to change these types of situations around. I pray for all of you, the good the bad and the ugly that you have become in your hearts because that is what you are, your heart. Don’t pat yourself on the back because you contribute to society in an economical way or you pay your taxes or you keep your house clean. Pat yourself on the back because you stepped out of your comfort zone and made a difference in someone’s life that led to more good than bad.
