Police later obtained and executed a search warrant on the vehicle and located a loaded handgun with the serial numbers scratched off and some loose ammunition. Police also seized nearly $8,500 in Canadian currency.

Multiple mobile phones and a digital scale were also observed inside the vehicle.

Further investigation revealed the arrested driver was connected with a Toronto gang.

The Crown is seeking the detention of Talbert and refuses to consent to his release. There are concerns on both the secondary and tertiary grounds regarding his release. Secondary grounds tells us that the Crown believes that the accused may either become a public safety concern, re-offend, interfere with the administration of justice, or any combination of the three. Tertiary grounds tells us that the Crown believes that if the accused were to be released, the public may lose confidence in the administration of justice.

Talbert has contacted David Young as his lawyer of choice. Young has left instructions with both the Crown and duty counsel to have the matter remanded until Tuesday, January 8th to be spoken to.

The accused range in age from 17-25.

โ€œItโ€™s alleged that the suspects involved in this investigation recruited these young girls, exploited them and forced them to work as prostitutes operating out of various hotel and motel locations across Toronto, Durham, Peel and Montreal,โ€ said Beaven-Desjardins.

She believes more young girls were exploited and is appealing to the public for assistance.

โ€œOnce located and brought back to the family in a safe environment, they will feel comfortable to come and speak with us.

โ€œโ€ฆIt takes a lot of courage for a victim to come forward. They have been entrenched within this type of lifestyle and for them to actually come forward and speak to us about it is very hard.โ€

Beaven-Desjardins said a quantity of money, along with a vehicle used in the commission of the offence and evidence that supports the charges, were seized during the raids.
