(KENORA, ON) – ARREST WARRANT EXECUTED BY KENORA OPP ON JAMES NEPANIK FOR FAILING TO ATTEND COURT.
SLIP OF THE TONGUE BY LAW STUDENT CAUSES DUTY COUNSEL TO VEHEMENTLY DENY THERE IS A BLANKET PUBLICATION BAN POLICY BY LEGAL AID
Appearing this morning, Saturday February 9,2019 via telephone from the Kenora OPP Station in Bail Courtroom 104 is 23 year old JAMES NEPANIK
It’s W.A.S.H. (Weekend And Statutory Holiday) Court today. His Worship, Justice of the Peace Bernard Caron is presiding. Provincial Crown Derrick Silvestro is here along with Duty Counsels Lianne Roberge and 2 Lakehead Law Students.
NEPANIK was arrested by OPP last evening for failing to attend court in Kenora on November 28,2018.
NEPANIK has outstanding charges of assault, assault with a weapon and assaulting a police officer.
Crown Attorney Silvestro is opposed to the release of NEPANIK.
Lakehead University Law Student J. Hyslop stands to speak and her first words are “We’re requesting a Section 517 publication ban”.
Crown Attorney Silvestro takes notice and stands to speak. “Who’s we”?
Student J. Hyslop appears to have no clue how to respond or what to say. She merely looks down and says nothing.
She’s clearly out of her league against Crown Silvestro.
Duty Counsel lawyer Lianne Roberge realizes the Freudian slip by the student and stutters a bit, then proclaims “There is no blanket publication ban policy by Legal Aid”.
WRITER’S NOTE: That’s funny Lianne, because you and the other Duty Counsel lawyer Joy have been requesting publication bans all day, everyday for months.
NEPANIK is being held for the weekend in jail and will appear in Kenora Bail Court on Monday.
