(THUNDER BAY, ON) – American media is reporting that a Canadian male has died south of the border in a snowmobile crash.
According to Kare11 the St Louis County Sheriff’s Office was informed about the crash on the Cook Area Snowmobile trail not too far from Buyck on Saturday a little before 6:00 pm local time.
It was said that the fatal crash happened on a straight part of the trail right after a curve.
35-year-old Melvyn Russell MacDonald of Fort Frances, Ontario was identified as the vicitm.
MacDonald was the second last snowmobile in the large group of trail riders.
His snowmobile left the trail after coming around a curve, then struck a tree which threw him from the snowmobile. MacDonald died at the scene. Alcohol and speed may have been a factor. The investigation is continuing.
Friends of MacDonald describe him as a warm, loving, caring and friendly man who was always there for those who needed him. He was a hardworking ironworker and will be missed by many.
