Appearing by video from the Thunder Bay Police Station is 21 year old KYLE DALE WESCOTT

Justice of the Peace Anna Gibbon is presiding. Crown Attorney Sarah Munsch is present along with Duty Counsel Sandeep Shroff.

WESCOTT is facing several more criminal charges after an alleged incident early this morning.

The court hears that WESCOTT was allegedly prowling at night when stole a vehicle in the 0-100 block of Windemere Avenue near Red River Road.

The owner of the vehicle was threatened with a knife as WESCOTT allegedly drove away with his vehicle.

Inside Edition sources indicate that the vehicle had a standard transmission and WESCOTT had difficulty driving it.

Our hardworking Thunder Bay Police Officers were quick to locate WESCOTT and arrest him.

It’s alleged during the course of the arrest that WESCOTT assaulted 3 police officers.

But our TBPS Officers take a licking and keep on ticking.

Oddly enough, WESCOTT was scheduled to appear in Courtroom 105 today to speak to charges related to a manhunt last August for him.

WESCOTT was released on bail in January to live in Thunder Bay.

The court hears that WESCOTT has lawyer Kate Brindley representing him. She is not present today.

The Crown is not consenting to his release. He will be transported to the Thunder Bay Jail

Justice of the Peace Gibbon asks WESCOTT if he’d like to appear in court by video in a day or two.

WESCOTT responds “How about next week? It doesn’t matter to me”.

His next court appearance will be by video on Monday March 11,2019


THEFT OF GAS IN THUNDER BAY LEADS TO MANHUNT IN SCHREIBER

On Saturday, August 18th, 2018, at approximately 12:00 pm officers of the Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a theft of gas in Thunder Bay. The vehicle resembling the description in the theft of gas was later observed on highway 17 near Schreiber.

When the driver observed police the motor vehicle fled from police. The vehicle was soon located abandoned on the south side of highway 17, east of Schreiber.

OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) were on the scene as well as air support units (helicopter), K9, and other ground support officers.

The public was asked to not pick up hitchhikers in the Schreiber/Terrace Bay.
At approximately 9:15pm OPP units conducting the search located the male in a sandpit near Winnipeg Street in Schreiber.

KYLE DALE WESCOTT, a 21 year old male from Calgary, AB was arrested and charged with:

  • Flight while Pursued by Police CC 249.1(1)
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle CC 249(1)a
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 CC 355(a)
  • Theft Under $5,000 X 2 CC 334(b)

The OPP thanked the public for their assistance in this.
