(FORT FRANCES, ON) – SHE WAS ALLEGEDLY DRINKING AND SMOKING WEED WHEN ASSAULT OCCURRED.
A 36 year old KAREN LESCAULT appeared via telephone from Fort Frances OPP Station this morning, Saturday March 9,2019 after being arrested by OPP on Saturday.
It’s W.A.S.H. (Weekend And Statutory Holiday) Court today. Her Worship, Justice of the Peace Denette Maslach is presiding. Provincial Crown Sarah Munsch is here along with Duty Counsel Lianne Roberge.
Fort Frances OPP were called to a disturbance at an apartment in the 100 block of Queen Street in Barwick at 11:55am on Friday March 8,2019.
Upon further investigation by OPP, KAREN LESCAULT was arrested for allegedly assaulting a male.
LESCAULT has several outstanding arrest warrants from South Porcupine, Ontario.
She is being released from jail and has a court date in Fort Frances on March 26,2019. She’s ordered not to contact her alleged victim. She’s also ordered not to drink alcohol.
Duty Counsel Lianne Roberge seems to think this matter will go to a jury trial. So she orders a Section 517 publication ban on all evidence and testimony given at the preliminary inquiry. It’s highly doubtful this matter will go to a preliminary inquiry. But Roberge seems to believe it will.
It seems Roberge does not want to have a jury improperly influenced. Sources indicate that Roberge has never worked a jury trial.
