(THUNDER BAY, ON) – VIOLENT OFFENDER WHO FAILED TO ATTEND COURT ARRESTED ON WARRANT
GOOD JOB BY TBPS OFFICERS
DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AT TBPS DID NOT FEATURE ON WANTED WEDNESDAY
A 51 year old RICHARD SHAKAPAI aka SUGARHEAD appeared via video from Thunder Bay Police Station this morning, Saturday March 9,2019.
It’s W.A.S.H. (Weekend And Statutory Holiday) Court today. Her Worship, Justice of the Peace Denette Massachusetts is presiding. Provincial Crown Sarah Munsch is here along with Duty Counsel Lianne Roberge.
SHAKAPAI aka SUGARHEAD was arrested by TBPS Officers last evening and charged with failing to attend court on January 11,2019.
SHAKAPAI has several outstanding charges including assault with a weapon X 3.
He was released on a recognizance on December 15,2018 by Her Worship Maslach after the assaults. It’s alleged that he used stolen credit cards at the LCBO on Dawson Road the very next day.
SHAKAPAI aka SUGARHEAD will not be released today. He is spending the weekend in jail. John Howard Society will interview him on Monday.
He will make a video appearance on Tuesday March 12,2019 from the jail.
Duty Counsel Lianne Roberge seems to think these matters will go to a jury trial. She requests a Section 517 publication ban so the jury will not be influenced. Any evidence or testimony given at a bail hearing or preliminary inquiry cannot be published.
