Rain and Snow Expected Across The Region

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – A significant rainfall event is likely to happening Thunder Bay and surrounding areas.

Further north, following Highway 11, the rain is expected to turn into snow. Drive according to conditions.

Below are the multiple statements released by Environment Canada regarding all the impacted areas.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay
  • Marathon – Schreiber
  • Nipigon – Rossport
  • Cloud Bay – Dorion
  • Kakabeka Falls – Whitefish Lake – Arrow Lake

Significant rainfall possible Sunday.

A low pressure system is expected to move over Northern Ontario on Sunday. Rain is expected to develop early Sunday and persist into Sunday night.

Rainfall amounts up to 25 mm are possible.

The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. Keep children and pets away from creeks and river banks.

A low pressure system is expected to move over Northern Ontario on Sunday. Snow is expected to develop Sunday morning and persist into Sunday night.

Total snowfall amounts near 15 cm are possible.

Travel may become difficult due to rapidly accumulating snow and reduced visibility in heavy snow.

Freezing rain and snow expected Sunday.

A low pressure system is expected to move over Northern Ontario on Sunday. Periods of snow or ice pellets are expected to develop Sunday morning then change to freezing rain. Several hours of freezing rain are then expected before a change to rain occurs in the afternoon or evening.

Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Surfaces such as highways, roads and walkways may become icy and slippery.
