(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Multiple anonymous tipsters in the Northwood neighbourhood have informed us that the power has been cut and that a man has been severely electrocuted.
According to eyewitnesses, a male was up in a tree cutting parts of it when things took a turn for the worst on Kensington Drive.
It has not been determined how yet, but the male and the tree became electrified and resulted in the male being electrocuted and suspended in the tree for about 20 minutes.
Onlookers were in horror watching the man begin to smoke as numerous 911 calls were made. The male was revived by first responders and has been sent to hospital for further treatment. He is expected to have severe burns on his body. Whether he will survive or not is uncertain at this point.
Hydro has cut power to the area once they were informed of the situation. People are being asked to avoid the area so that first responders can work quickly and safely. Hydro says that about 1000 to 1500 customers are impacted by the power outage but expect service back on by 1:00 pm.
It is believed that a contractor, ArborTech, was hired by a homeowner to trim a tree.
We will update this story as soon as more information becomes available.
