(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Yesterday in the Current River neighbourhood members of the Thunder Bay Police Service responded to a call for service regarding a seriously injured male.
Residents in the area tell TRCCTB.COM that about 9 police cruisers and a Superior North EMS ambulance responded to the incident. The home, a residence at the corner of Adelaide and Grenville was at the centre of the need for an emergency response.
Sources in the area that watched the events unfold have told us that two people were taken into police custody and one person was sent to hospital for medical attention.
Appearing in courtroom 104 for her first bail appearance is 27-year-old Clarissa Matachewagon (spelling unconfirmed). She appeared by video from the Thunder Bay Police Service Station. His Worship, Justice of the Peace Bernard Caron was presiding along with Crown Attorney Tamara Fairchild and a duty counsel representative.
Clarissa is charged with Aggravated Assault stemming from the incident in Current River on April 29th.
The Crown states that Clarissa is in a “Crown-Onus” situation, which means that it is up to the Crown to show the courts why Clarissa should be detained. Further, the Crown indicates that release is possible if a suitable plan were presented and asks the matter be stood down so that Clarissa’s defence lawyer can craft a release plan.
Clarissa’s matter is stood down for almost an hour and then is brought back into court.
Upon return to court, a bail plan has not been crafted and the Crown states that they are not consenting to Clarissa’s release. Defence requests the matter return to court tomorrow by video for another attempt at bail.
Clarissa is escorted back to her jail cell at the Thunder Bay Police Service station to wait to be transported to the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre where she will wait for her appearance tomorrow. Further, she is ordered not to contact her alleged victim directly or indirectly while in custody.
