Transport Fire Backs Up Traffic – Sistonen’s Corner

(KAMINISTIQUA, ON) – Our newsroom has been slammed with complaints about highway 11/17 and highway 102/Dawson road being backed up.

After a brief investigation, the result is that we determined there was a vehicle fire on highway 11/17 just west of highway 102.

The fire was contained to the westbound lane. First responders, such as police and firefighters are on scene sorting out the situation.

Traffic control is in place. Please ensure you remain aware and use caution in the area.

One lane is closed and traffic is being alternated through the open lane. This situation started shortly before 4:00am.

Update from OPP: On July 10, 2019, at approximately 3:40 a.m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of tractor trailer fire on Highway 11/17, west of the Sunshine Loop Road.

Officers attended the scene to conduct traffic control as the trailer portion (chip hauler) of a tractor trailer caught fire. The tractor portion was successfully separated and there were no injuries reported. Currently, Highway 11/17 is open to one lane of alternating traffic and crews are working on removing the trailer from the highway.
