Sometime between midnight and 3:00 am allegations are that a male lost his shit and assaulted a woman with a pool cue. During the altercation, he also broke two windows with that pool cue.

Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service responded to the scene and made the arrest of 20-year-old Trevor Patrick Randall Achneepineskum. He was taken to the police station on Balmoral (Hotel Balmoral) where he waited to appear in bail court this morning.

During his appearance for bail this morning, visiting Justice of the Peace Munroe presided along with Crown Attorney VanKessel and duty counsel lawyer Golphy.

Achneepineskum is facing the following criminal charges:

  • Assault with a weapon (pool cue).
  • Mischief causing damage under $5000 x2 (windows).

Achneepineskum is not new to the criminal justice system. The 20-year old has outstanding charges pending before the courts. On May 24th, 2019 he is alleged to have stolen an item from a local Wal-Mart. He was on probation from a previous matter during that time and was also charged with breaching a probation condition of โ€œkeep the peace and be of good behaviourโ€.

He is also going through court for allegedly failing to report to his probation officer between September 26th 2018 and October 31 2018. He also has a breach of probation charge outstanding from this incident as well.

The Crown states that the accused is in a reverse-onus situation and that they intend to show the court why he should remain in jail. A reverse-onus situation means that the accused has to show the court why he should be released. Court hears the Crown is concerned on primary and secondary grounds regarding his release. Primary ground concerns indicates the Crown doubts the accused will return to court should they be released. Secondary ground concerns means the Crown believes there is a substantial likelihood of the accused either reoffending or becoming a public safety concern.

Further, the Crown states that Achneepineskum has a lengthy criminal record which includes violence and failing to comply with court orders.

Duty counsels requests the matter be remanded until Wednesday, which will give the accused some time to contact a lawyer of his choice. Achneepineskum is escorted back to his jail cell at the TBPS station where he will wait for prisoner transport to the Thunder Bay District Jail A.K.A. โ€œThe Algoma Bed & Breakfastโ€.
