A 48 year old VERNA KING appeared by telephone in W.A.S.H. (Weekend And Statutory Holiday) Court on Saturday May 5,2018 from the Pikangikum OPP Station.
Her Worship, Denette Maslach is presiding. Provincial Crown Katrina Van Kessel is here along with Duty Counsel Lianne Roberge.
The court hears allegations that KING was drinking homebrew at a home on Band Office Road last evening and got into an argument with a younger male in the home. She grabbed a broom and struck him in the head a few times, then she grabbed a kitchen knife and wounded his right forearm.
The male required 14 stitches on his arm and medical glue to close the wound to his head at the nursing station.
KING was arrested by the OPP & does have a violent and dated criminal record.
The court hears there is a plan for her release. She will be released on 250$ no deposit bail and must reside with her sister Harriet Strang on Dump Road. She’s not to possess any weapons and not allowed to leave Pikangikum Indian Reserve 14.
She’s not to contact her victim or the witness. She must stay at least 25 metres away from victim.
Her next court date is later this month in Pikangikum.
