On Tuesday, April 10th, 2018 shortly after 2:00 pm members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17a. During the vehicle stop, police determined the male driver was transporting a quantity of unmarked cigarettes.
With the assistance of an OPP K9 Unit, a search of the vehicle located approximately 190 cases of illegal tobacco as well as Canadian currency. The tobacco’s estimated street value is $332,500.00.
As a result of the investigation, 64 year old Dorel MAGUREANU of Calgary, Alberta has been charged with:
Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco contrary to section 121.1 of the Criminal Code (CC).
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 s. 354(1)(a) CC.
He is to appear in Kenora Court on June 7, 2018 answer to the charges.
