Youth Arrested After Knife Point Sexual Assault


(THUNDER BAY, ON) โ€“ As with all articles involving youth, we do not publish their identity as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.


Appearing in a Thunder Bay bail court this morning via video from the Thunder Bay Police Service station A.K.A. โ€œHotel Balmoralโ€ was a male youth. His Worship, visiting Justice of the Peace Munroe was presiding along with Crown Attorney VanKessel and duty counsel lawyer Golphy.

The youth is facing the following criminal charges stemming from a July 12th incident:

  • Sexual assault with a weapon (knife).
  • Sexual touching a person under 16 with penis.
  • Forcible confinement.

There is already a criminal charge working through the justice system for this male youth stemming from an incident on December 17th, 2018. That charge is assault causing bodily harm.

Dilico is in the body of the court and they advise that they are willing to take the youth back into their care. The Crown indicates that all youthโ€™s are always in a Crown-onus situation, meaning the Crown would have to show the court why the accused would have to be detained. Further, the Crown acknowledges Dilicoโ€™s intent to take the boy back into their care albeit, with elevated supervision.


The Crown recommends release on the following conditions:

  • No-surety recognizance of $100 non-deposit.
  • Reside at the address provided to the court.
  • Abide by all rules of the home.
  • No contact with 4 people.
  • Not attend anywhere those 4 people goto school, work, live or otherwise might be.
  • Not to possess any weapons.

Duty counsel agrees to the conditions on behalf of the boy and requests an August 8th date for the matters to return to court. the Justice of the Peace grants the request and the boy is ordered released and to return to court on that date.
