(DEER LAKE, ON) – A Deer Lake man is facing allegations stemming from an August 28th incident where a woman was assaulted and forcibly confined against her will.
Nishnawbe Aski Police Service made the arrest and held 33-year-old Adrian Meekis to appear in a Thunder Bay court room this morning via telephone call.
Meekis appeared before Her Worship, Justice of the Peace Zelda Kitchekeesic. Crown Attorney Afton Brown and a duty counsel representative was also present handling the case. Meekis is facing the following criminal charges:
- Assault (on a woman).
- Forcible Confinement.
After some court room discussions, Meekis was denied bail today and was scheduled to appear on Monday in a Kenora court room for another shot at being released.
Meekis was sent back to his cell at the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service detachment in Deer Lake where he will wait to be transported to the Kenora District Jail. He will remain in the Kenora DJ until at least his court appearance on Monday.
