Police Advise Public About Collisions Involving Wildlife

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – The Rainy River District Detachment on the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeing an increase in collisions involving wildlife across the district.
In the Atikokan area alone, 6 moose were killed in a 7 day period.
Motorists are reminded of the danger posed by animals moving in the area. Wildlife can cause significant damage to vehicles and also cause significant injuries to people in vehicles.
Drivers are urged to remain vigilant while driving. Do not be distracted by other activities, especially from the dusk to dawn timeframe. If you have passengers in your vehicle, ask them to help you look for wildlife on and alongside the highway.
Safety is a responsibility shared equally by all people operating vehicles on public roads.
