(UPSALA, ON) – On Thursday, November 15, 2018 at approximately 11:00 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Ministry of Transport and Upsala Fire and Ambulance responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 17 approximately 20 kilometers east of Upsala.
Investigation has determined that the male driver and lone occupant of a grey 4-door automobile travelling eastbound on Highway 17 lost control of the vehicle, crossed over into the westbound lane and collided with a white westbound transport trailer unit.
The male driver of the automobile was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identification of the driver is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
The driver of the transport trailer unit was uninjured.
Highway 17 traffic at this location was limited to one lane while OPP Highway Safety Division officers (HSD), OPP Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI) assisted with the investigation.
Both lanes of the highway were fully re-opened to traffic at approximately 7:20 am. The investigation is continuing.
