WOODEN BOARD AND HAMMER GET NICKEL NAILED BY DRYDEN POLICE.
Appearing by telephone from the Dryden Police Station facing 10 new charges is 30 year old RYAN MATTHEW NICKEL.
It’s W.A.S.H. (Weekend And Statutory Holiday) Court today. Her Worship, Denette Maslach is presiding. Provincial Crown Andrew Sadler is here along with Duty Counsel Lianne Roberge.
The court hears the NICKEL was arrested yesterday by Dryden Police. He’s facing allegations of 2 assaults while carrying a hammer against a male and female as well as 2 counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm. He’s also accused of mischief for destroying a rear window of a vehicle with the hammer.
On May 1,2018 he allegedly committed 2 assaults with a wooden board against a male and female in Dryden and uttered threats to both of them. He’s further alleged to have committed mischief by damaging an air compressor that belonged to the assault victims.
NICKEL also has outstanding charges of break and enter, assault causing bodily harm and failure to comply.
Crown Attorney Andrew Sadler is not consenting to his release. This is a reverse onus situation.
Duty Counsel Roberge goes to speak privately on phone with NICKEL and then returns.
NICKEL is back on the court phone line and tells the court that he wants an Ojibway lawyer and not Duty Counsel.
NICKEL asks the Crown why he’s not being released today.
Crown Attorney Sadler succinctly replies “Primary, Secondary & Tertiary Grounds”.
NICKEL is being transported to Sioux Lookout Bail Court to appear in Bail Court on Monday May 7,2018
