Appearing handcuffed in Judges Courtroom 102 today, Tuesday May 1,2018 is a 42 year old JASON ROBERT RITCHAT
His Honour Justice Frank Valente is presiding. Crown Attorney Katrina Van Kessel is present along with defence lawyer Michael Hargadon.
RITCHAT is about 5’5” tall, pudgy in stature and wearing light coloured clothing. He has a large bald area on his head and remainder has been shaved off. He’s looking pretty rough for a 42 year old.
He’s pleading guilty to a total of 8 criminal charges. 3 counts of Theft under 5000$ and 5 breaches.
Court hears he got caught shoplifting at Shoppers Drug Mary on Arthur, Shell station on Arthur and Real Canadian Superstore. He has a long history of theft and breaching court ordered conditions.
Court hears he had a 4 month Conditional Sentence that he breached last year.
He’s spent a total of 51 days in custody so far.
Court hears he lost his wife, his kids and his million dollar business to his cocaine use.
He’s being sentenced to 6 months in jail from this day forward (which really means 4 months).
He receives another 18 months probation and a DNA order.
RITCHAT also receives an 800$ Victim Surcharge Fine. He has 12 months to pay.
Asked if he has anything to say, RITCHAT responds “I’m sorry that I done all this. I do desire not to do this again”
RITCHAT HAS OUTSTANDING CHARGES LEFT TO DEAL WITH FROM AN ALLEGED HOME INVASION AND STABBING.
On April 7, 2018 TBPS officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of County Boulevard just before 5:30am for a disturbance.
Officers found a 57 year old male injured inside his home. Officers located two other males hiding in the residence. The male victim was taken to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Center for medical attention. He reported to officers that two unknown males entered his residence and assaulted him.
ADAM JOSEPH GOODWIN, 31 years old was charged with Aggravated Assault and Break & Enter.
JASON ROBERT RITCHAT, 42 years old has was charged with Aggravated Assault, Break & Enter and 2 counts of Breach of Probation.
RITCHAT IS TAKEN OUT OF THE COURTROOM TO GO SERVE HIS SENTENCE.
HIS NEXT COURT DATE IS JUNE 20,2018 at 10 for pretrial on the home invasion and stabbing
