ST. IGNATIUS Vs. ST. PATRICK HIGH SCHOOL COURTROOM JURY TRIAL.
St. Patrick’s gets the victory in today’s high school mock manslaughter trial of R. v Rogers
Appearing today in the high-security courtroom 206 before Superior Court Justice Danial Newton are the enthusiastic and youthful students from Grade 11 and 12 at both high schools. I had the opportunity to speak with St Patrick’s Grade 12 teacher Ms. Cavar as she tells me about her student’s participation in today’s mock trial. The mock trials are being conducted across Ontario by high school students as part of the Ontario Justice Education Program. Judging by the looks on some of the youth, it was their first time here. It’s good to see the local youth out learning and participating in these school exercises. Ms. Caza’s Grade 11 class is also present.
It should be noted that local lawyers MIKE MAHER and HEATHER SALTER were instrumental in assisting the students to prepare for this mock trial.
I’d like to thank the teachers and students for coming out today. Your enthusiasm and energy was highly contagious and a much-appreciated change in the normal courthouse activities.
