(THUNDER BAY, ON) – As is tradition, car hoppers have made their nightly rounds and are even experimenting with day time missions to yoink your valuable belongings from your vehicles. These “crimes of opportunity”, which are rampant in Thunder Bay, are often driven by addiction.
The other evening around 7:00 pm at the Marina a vehicle suffered a smashed window and a purse was stolen from the owner.
Police were notified and have started an investigation.
Sources indicate that the Marina has become a hot spot for car hoppers to strike the area, victimizing otherwise lawabiding citizens.
Witnesses in the area say that a male suspect approached the vehicle not long after the owner headed off for a stroll with their two dogs. The suspect wrapped a rock in a flannel shirt and smashed it into the window, destroying the window and gaining access to the SUV.
The suspect is described as:
- Wearing black pants and white grey t-shirt at the time of the incident.
Below is an image of what the purse appears like, except the C’s were maroon in colour and had a black zipper pocket.
Anyone with information about this or other car hopping situations are urged to contact the Thunder Bay Police Service at 807-684-1200. If you wish to remain anonymous, and possibly get some cash for your information, reach out the Crime Stoppers via their website at www.p3tips.com/273.
